Ways To Support Your Local Community

As Colorado and other states around the nation begin reopening phases, we’ve been thinking about positive ways to support local communities around the country.

From restaurants to boutiques and coffee shops to salons, here are a few ways you can help out your favorite local spots right now, no matter what phase of reopening your community is in.

Start Patronizing – Safely or Online

Salons, clothing stores and more are starting to reopen under social distancing guidelines. The question is – how can you start safely patronizing these places that are opening their doors?

The best way to start patronizing is to check in with the stores before doing so. Look at their website and social media to see what practices they have in place. Do they prefer online pickup? Are they opening at a reduced capacity?

For some businesses, masks and certain distancing practices are required. Make sure you have the right equipment to keep yourself and those around you safe. Whether it’s by practicing distancing measures, masks or making appointments, following the procedures set in place by each individual store is the best way to ensure safety.

Utilize Curbside, Takeout and Delivery Services

One of the most socially distant ways to support local businesses is to continue ordering – but utilize curbside pickup, delivery and takeout services.

With restaurants, clothing shops, specialty shops and local supplies for your house, curbside, takeout or delivery help you to maintain social distance and safety while also supporting the business of your choice. Many companies are updating their websites or social media profiles with their preferred methods to supply products to their loyal customers, and when in doubt you can call the business to ask them their preferred method.

Takeout, delivery and curbside not only protect you while patronizing – it also helps to protect the staff and other customers from any potential infection.

Buy Gift Cards or Donate

For organizations that aren’t yet open, or those you don’t feel comfortable heading to just yet, consider donating or purchasing a gift card to use at a later date.

Look at your local government website to see if there is a small business fund you can donate to. You can also keep donating to organizations such as animal shelters and resources for people experiencing homelessness or hunger.

Consider purchasing a gift card to your favorite restaurant, bar, spa or other local spot that isn’t open yet. When they do reopen, you can put the gift card to good use!
